Round 2: 2018 IHSAA Lafayette Jeff. Boys Basketball Sectional Tournament


Lafayette, Ind., — Six teams began, now only four remain as the 2018 Class 4A Sectional 7 heats up at Lafayette Jeff. After the Kokomo Wildcats and host Jefferson Bronchos squared off in the opening round of the 2018 IHSAA Lafayette Jefferson Basketball Tournament, it was Lafayette Jeff who came out on top, 50-39.

Results – Tues., Feb. 27
G1: Lafayette Jefferson 50, Kokomo 39
G2: Zionsville 52,  Logansport 43

With the win, Jefferson advances to play defending sectional champions: the McCutcheon Mavericks, in Game 1 on Friday, March 2. The Zionsville Eagles will also advance after holding off Logansport for the 52-43 win. The Eagles take on the Harrison Raiders in Game 2 on Friday.

Shawn Harmon, Andrew Bowes, and Royce King will be your crew of officials for Friday’s game between the Harrison Raiders and Zionsville Eagles.

Harrison enters Friday’s semi-finals with an overall record of 14-8. Guided by Head Coach Mike Rinehart, the Raiders won their last match-up of the regular season against Hamilton Heights, 89-76 where six players finished in double-digit scoring. Led by their seniors Benito Munoz (18pts), Austin Dunwoody (17pts), Calvin Walters (13pts), Bobby Dearing (12pts), and Alex Bauer (11pts) Harrison posted a 33-point quarter in the third over the Huskies. The Raiders look to bring their effort and energy to Friday’s battle against Zionsville.

The Eagles who came out of Tuesday’s opening round over Logansport, defeated the Berries in overtime for the 52-43 victory.¬†Isaiah Thompson led Zionsville with 16 points and senior Mark Stemme¬†added 14, including going 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Zionsville enters Friday’s match-up with a 20-3 overall record. The Eagles are led by Head Coach Shaun Busick.

Crispus Attucks Hosts Washington Continentals


Indianapolis, Ind., — Crispus Attucks boys varsity basketball team is kicking off the weekend with a home game on Friday night against the Indianapolis Washington Continentals.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST, with Royce King, Nathan Boudreaux, and Kevin McMichel as your crew of officials.

The visiting Continentals of Indianapolis George Washington High School (10-13, 1-4 IPS) fell to Scecina Memorial on Tuesday, 81-69. The Continentals will close out the season with two road tests against fellow Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) Crispus Attucks and Broad Ripple. Washington is guided by Head Coach Charles Graybiel.

Led by Head Coach Chris Hawkins, the Crispus Attucks Tigers (13-4) are coming off a 98-62 victory over Speedway High School, in which five players reached double-digits. Senior Derrick Briscoe led the charge with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Jamal Harris and Harold Bennett each tallied 14 points in the win. The Tigers return to action on their home floor Friday.

Bloomington South Visits Columbus North in Conference Indiana Match-up


Columbus, Ind., — The Columbus North varsity boys basketball team has a conference home game Friday, Feb. 9 against the Panthers of Bloomington South.

Tip-off is at 7:30 PM EST, with Kurt Sundling, Royce King, and Seth Lee as your crew of officials.

Bloomington High School South (19-2, 5-0) is currently sitting at the top of Conference Indiana leading with a perfect 5-0 record in league play. Head Coach J.R. Holmes and the Panthers will face Columbus North in a road test, as they look to get their tenth straight win. The Panthers defeated North Posey, 79-46 on Feb. 3.

The Columbus North Bulldogs came up short on Tuesday, against Franklin Community falling 55-51. With the loss the Bulldogs move to 11-8 overall and 3-2 in conference play. Columbus North will battle Bloomington South Friday night as things heat up before the postseason. The Bulldogs are coached by Paul Ferguson.
