LeMoyne-Owen at Central State Preview


Wilberforce, Ohio — The Lady Magicians took their first conference loss of the season, in a tough battle Thursday, against Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Kentucky State University (KSU). The Thorobrettes outlasted LeMoyne-Owen, 63-61. Box scores. 

The Lady Magicians (3-4, 2-1) had their three game win streak snapped, and will have a quick turn around as they face the Lady Marauders of Central State University (CSU), Saturday. In another SIAC match-up, LOC will have the chance to bring the Lady Marauders (6-2, 3-0) five-game hot streak to an end. CSU is coming off a 23-point victory over Lane College, 69-46. The Lady Marauders were led by sophomore Takyra Gilbert with 24 points in the win. Saturday’s (Dec. 2) contest is set for a 1 PM ET tip-off in Beacom/Lewis Gym.

On the men’s side, the Magicians fell to the KSU Thorobreds 100-90, making this their fourth straight loss, including three conference contests. Box scores.

Junior guard Jaequan Brown, recorded his first double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 boards, for LOC. Teammate Rashawn Ellis, led all scorers with 25 points. The Magicians shot 45% (29-65) from the field and 41% (7-17) from the arc, and forced 16 KSU turnovers.

The Magicians (2-5, 0-3), look to put together a complete game Saturday, when they visit Central State at Wilberforce. The Marauders (3-4, 2-1) defeated Lane, 70-58, Thursday behind junior Chris Scott’s 24 points and 9 rebounds. Tip-off is set for 3 PM ET following the women’s game.

LeMoyne-Owen visits Kentucky State University


Frankfort, Ky., — LeMoyne-Owen (LOC) men’s and women’s basketball squads travel to the Exum Center for another conference match-up, taking on Kentucky State University (KYSU) Thorobreds, Thursday.


The Thorobreds (1-6, 1-1) grabbed their first win of the season against conference opponent Albany State University, 83-69 on Monday night. KYSU had five players reach double-figures in their team victory, led by senior, Reggie Breeden with 17 points.

Box score. The Magicians (2-4, 0-2) are still looking to put together a conference win as they fell to Claflin on Monday, 75-68, dropping them to 0-2 in the SIAC. This marks LOC’s third straight loss, but the season is still young, and the Magicians are 1-0 on the road with a favorable history of sweeping the Thorobreds in last years series. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.

On the women’s side, the Lady Magicians (3-3, 2-0) are picking up steam as they continue to roll over conference opponents, defeating the Lady Panthers, 57-44 on Monday. With two straight SIAC wins on their home floor, LOC looks to carry their energy and defensive strategy into Frankfort to increase their win streak to four.

KYSU Thorobrettes (1-6, 1-1) took their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss at the hands of Albany State University, 74-55. The Thorobrettes were led in scoring by senior guard Brittani Rizzi and junior forward Jordan Campbell, with 14 points each. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM ET.

Panthers vs Magicians Preview


Memphis, Tenn., — LeMoyne-Owen (LOC) came up short in Saturday’s conference opener, falling 87-67, to Benedict College (BC). Box score.

The Magicians ((2-3), (0-1)) trailed 43-32 at the half, and managed to cut the Tigers’ lead to 50-45 with 15:29 left in the contest, but BC would go on a run to extend their lead and not look back. Reshun Ellis finished with 32 points on the evening, while Aston Morton and Jaquan Lawrence added 10 apiece for the Magicians.

LOC returns to the floor Monday, Nov. 27, in another SIAC contest against Claflin University (CLAF). The Panthers ((4-1), (1-0)) are on a three game win streak having defeated Lane College 63-57. Claflin’s Jaleel Charles, leads the Panthers with 16.2 ppg.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM CT at LOC (Bruce/Johnson Hall) right after the women’s game.
