August 1, 2018 – Wednesday’s matchups are headlined by the Phoenix Mercury (15-12) and Las Vegas Aces (12-13) as the Mercury visit Mandalay Bay. Phoenix is in the middle of a tough schedule as they gear up for four games in eight days. The Mercury who lost to the Storm 102-91 on Tuesday, had trouble on the defensive end as Seattle shot 54 percent from the field allowing Jewell Loyd to pour in 29 points. Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi combined for 45 points in the teams loss. Phoenix will now face off against the Las Vegas Aces for the fourth and final time this regular season as both teams vie for a playoff spot. The Aces have showed great improvement and promise over the course of the season as they rely on their energy and youth to see them through. The Connecticut Sun (14-12) host the New York Liberty (7-18) for the third and final meeting this regular season. These two squads have split the season series both having won on the heels of a last second shot. Connecticut’s All-Star Chiney Ogwumike has had a solid comeback season after missing all last season due to injury. With Connecticut’s squad back to full strength, the Sun aim to get back to the playoffs and make a deeper run this season. The Liberty who have struggled this year look to end a four game skid that began before the All-Star break.
