Indianapolis, Ind., – The Phoenix Mercury travel to Bankers Life Fieldhouse to square off with the Indiana Fever on Friday night for a seven o’clock tip-off. This will be the first time the two teams meet each other this season.
Indiana (1-14) is coming off back-to-back loses to the Connecticut Sun who secured the 101-89 victory on Wednesday behind Chiney Ogwumike and Jonquel Jones’ 21 points a piece. After a rough start falling behind 30-14 at the end of the first quarter, Indiana managed to fight their way back as rookie Victoria Vivian’s had the hot shooting hand. Vivians nailed a career-high five 3-pointers to post a career-high 25 points to lead Indiana in scoring. However, it wouldn’t be enough to come away with the win. Kelsey Mitchell added 15 points for the Fever, and Candice Dupree tallied 14 points. The Fever look to get off to a much better start at home on Friday against the visiting Mercury who are 11-5 on the season.
Phoenix looks to do work after an 83-69 victory over the New York Liberty on Tuesday. The Mercury are currently 7-2 on the road and aim to continue that success when they come to Indianapolis. In Tuesday’s win, Diana Taurasi shot 7-for-11 from behind the arc finishing with 27 points and seven assists. DeWanna Bonner added 18 points, while Brittney Griner and Sancho Lyttle each scored 12 points.
