Indianapolis, Ind., – The visiting Los Angeles Sparks and the Indiana Fever faced off at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Tuesday night, as the Fever sought out their first victory of the season.
Getting out to a hot start the Sparks came out shooting 81% from the field led by Nneka Ogwumike and Odyssey Sims who got L.A. into a nice rhythm to start the game. Looking to answer point guard Erica Wheeler put the Fever on the board off a strong drive to the basket for two. However, the Sparks had their way on the offensive end getting shot after shot to take a commanding 33-16 lead after the first quarter.
Trying to nudge their way back into the game the Fever managed to come within ten after two made free-throws by rookie Kelsey Mitchell, but the Sparks proved too much to handle in the paint. Los Angeles would improve to 2-0 on the season defeating Indiana, 87-70.
Ogwumike finished with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Sims tallied 17 points on the evening.
For Indiana, Kelsey and Tiffany Mitchell led the way with 20 and 14 points, respectively. Moving to 0-3 on the season the Fever look to turn things around when they host the Washington Mystics on Thursday night at 7 PM ET.
