Indianapolis, Ind., — The Indiana Fever kicked-off their preseason opener against the Chicago Sky Monday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with a win.
The Fever came out slow as the Sky jumped on the board and went on a 6-0 run. However, after a quick regroup Indiana fell into a rhythm as rookie Stephanie Mavunga scored the teams first five points.
Leading 21-16 after the first quarter, Indiana would maintain the advantage as nine of their 12 players got on the score board with three and half minutes remaining in the half. The Sky would make a push late in the third led by a Cheyenne Parker layup. In the end it wouldn’t be enough as Indiana went on to win it 79-65. Mavunga would lead Indiana in her debut with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Alexis Peterson also added 17 points, while Kelsey Mitchell and Kayla Alexander each posted eight.
Cheyenne Parker and Kahleah Copper each tallied 10 points for the Sky.
