Memphis, Tenn., — The LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians men’s and women’s basketball teams swept the Golden Bears of Miles College (MC) on Monday night, in a conference road test that pushed both teams to rise to the occasion.
The Magicians (7-12, 3-9 SIAC) brought home the 96-86 victory over the Bears after leading by as much as 14 with just 42 seconds remaining in the contest. Despite giving up 15 turnovers LOC had a huge night in terms of shot selection, as the Magicians dominated MC in the paint 52-22. Although Miles managed to gain a one point advantage in the second half with 8:29 remaining, the Magicians would work together coming up with steals and knocking down shots to put the Bears away.
Both the Magicians and the Bears had six players each finish with double-digits in the scoring column. Nathan Sheffield led MC with 18 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Sheldon Wright and Jeffrey Dockett with 15 apiece.
LOC’s Aston Morton and Jaequan Brown recorded 20-point outings with Reshun Ellis not far behind with 19 points. Demba Konate, Filip Vukmirovic, and Chicago native, Jaquan Lawrence all added 10 points each to the victory.
LeMoyne-Owen welcomes the Central State Marauders (6-13, 5-7 SIAC) to C. Arthur Bruce/Jerry C. Johnson Hall for a conference doubleheader this Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 PM CT.
