Memphis, Tenn., — Saturday evening was one to remember as the #LOCFAMILY showed up and showed out, packing Bruce/Johnson Hall for a nonconference doubleheader against the Rust College Bearcats from Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Despite the cold and snowy weather, the Lady Magicians and the Lady Bearcats came ready to compete going toe to toe in the first half. Holding a slim, 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, LOC buckled down on the defensive end and took advantage of their depth offensively to score easy buckets, making it 34-34 at the half.
The Lady Bearcats would enter the fourth quarter trailing LOC, 51-42 and attempt to mount a comeback, but the Lady Magicians would hold on for the 61-58 victory.
LeMoyne-Owen women’s basketball (9-6, 5-3 SIAC) looks to extend their winning streak when they host the Badgers of Spring Hill College (10-6, 4-3 SIAC) on Monday, Jan 15 at 5:30 PM.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE …
With the gym rocking, the men’s teams would put on a show for the fans in a back and forth battle as the Magicians and the Bearcats traded bucket for bucket. LeMoyne-Owen held a five point advantage heading into the second half (41-35), but the Bearcats would not go quitely knotting the game up 65-all, with 7:57 remaining on the clock. Keeping their cool, LOC remained focused and went on to win, 87-78, with four Magicians reaching double-figures.
LeMoyne improves to 5-10 overall, and 1-8 in the SIAC, as they prepare to host Spring Hill (4-12, 2-6 SIAC) at 7:30 PM, on MLK Day.
