Memphis, Tenn., — The LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians kicked off the second half of the season with a 70-63 victory over Albany State University.
Both Magicians men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to Jerry C. Johnson Court on Friday night after the long holiday break. With the win, LOC secured it’s first conference victory behind a competitive team effort, as the Magicians deflected and dove for any loose ball.
The Magicians led 35-27 at the half, with Rashawn Ellis pouring in 16 points before the break. Eager for their first victory of the season, the Rams cut to within four to start the second half, but LeMoyne would make a statement after back-to-back layups by guard Martez Briggs, followed by the two-hand JAM from Ellis to maintain the lead.
The Magicians (4-7, 1-5 SIAC) battle Fort Valley State University Wildcats (7-6, 4-1 SIAC) next.
Game time is Saturday, Dec. 30 at Bruce/Johnson Hall immediately following the women’s game (7:30 PM CT).
