Memphis, Tenn., — The Lady Magicians ((2-3), (1-0)) came out on top 65-61, in an exciting match-up against the Lady Tigers ((0-5), (0-1)) of Benedict College (BC) on Saturday.
In a back-and-forth battle, the Lady Magicians trailed 30-29, at the half after guard Corlisha Howard went on a run to pace LeMoyne with 11 points. Despite being outscored by the Lady Tigers 14-9 in the third quarter, the Lady Magicians capitalized on BC’s turnovers scoring 28 points off of them.
In the final minutes of the game, LeMoyne-Owen (LOC) showed great poise knocking down clutch free-throws and locking in on the defensive end to come away with their first conference (SIAC) victory of the season. LOC’s Dana Gettis, led all scorers with 17 points, including the game winning free-throws. Guard Lamontazia Blair made the play of the game on a steal for two, after an LOC turnover with just 10.2 secs. left in the game. She would finish with 12 points and 5 steals, behind Howard’s 13 points. Box score.
The Lady Magicians return to the hardwood Monday, Nov. 27, in another conference match-up against Claflin University (CLAF). The Lady Panthers ((2-3), (1-0)) are coming off their first SIAC victory as well, over Lane College 59-38. The Lady Panthers are led by seniors Ashley Fields and Dominique Williams with 15.0 and 13.0 ppg, respectively.
