ROUND 1 Single-Elimination Recap

#6 Mystics advance over #7 Wings, 86-76

#5 Mercury defeat #8 Storm, 79-69

GAME 1: #5 MERCURY VS. #4 SUN @CONNECTICUT, 3 PM ET

After making it out of the 1st-round of single-elimination games, Diana Taurasi and the #5 Phoenix Mercury, head to Connecticut to battle Jonquel Jones and the Sun. In what will be another epic match-up, Brittney Griner who dropped 23 points and 11 rebounds in Round 1, will face the sophomore forward/center, Jones who has been phenomenal this season averaging 15.4 ppg and 11.9 rpg, breaking the WNBA rebounding record at 403 rebounds (previously held by Tina Charles). Although Phoenix, a 3x league champion, has the advantage of being the more experienced team in postseason play, the Sun are a young, hungry team who just might suprise you. The winner of this game advances to a 3-of-5 semifinal against either the No. 1 Minnesota Lynx or the No. 2 Los Angeles Sparks. Tune in at 3 PM ET on ESPN2 for some WNBA action.

GAME 2: #6 MYSTICS VS. #3 LIBERTY @NEW YORK, 5 PM ET

Despite playing in the WNBA Finals four times, the #3 New York Liberty have yet to be crowned league champions. This evening, the Liberty will have a chance to advance and make their way back to said Finals, as they host the Washington Mystics at Madison Square Garden. The Mystics who advanced past the first round for the first time since 2002, are eager to make their first Finals appearance behind the leadership of Elena Delle Donne in today’s match-up. Delle Donne finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds in the Round 1 victory over Dallas, after dealing with some injuries during the regular season. It’s going to take a team effort as the Mystics prepare to keep the Liberty at bay on the glass in hopes of stopping Tina Charles and her squad. The winner will advance to a best-of-five series against the Minnesota Lynx with Game 1 at 8 PM ET Tuesday. Catch this game today at 5 PM ET on ESPN2.
