Last week, the highly anticipated BIG3 Professional 3 on 3 basketball league made its debut at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Packing the stands, 15,177 enthusiastic fans witnessed the first ever BIG3 quadruple header.
For those who have been sleeping, the BIG3 was founded by actor, producer, and music icon Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz to bring viewers an uptempo, highly intense, and competitive game. The inaugural season began June of 2017 and features some of the greatest NBA superstars in this half court style game to 60. The BIG3 is comprised of 8 teams of 5 players, with 1 coach per team. The 8 week regular season games are held in a new location every Sunday, followed by the playoffs in Week 9 and the championship in Week 10.
Players like Mike Bibby, Rashard Lewis, Allen “The Answer” Iverson, and Jermaine O’Neal took to the court for Week 1’s action, putting on an entertaining show with 4-point shots, do or die shootouts, and more.

Kicking off the holiday weekend, fans once again packed the stands, this time at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC to take in Week 2’s action of BIG3. In an effort to maximize fan engagement and shorten game length, an update was made to scoring rules by BIG3 co-founders. Instead of playing to 60 points, the first team to reach 50, wins with halftime occurring at the 25 point mark. This made games that much more intense as players valued each possession. In game 1, Trilogy faced off against the 3-Headed Monsters as both teams sought their second consecutive win. Trilogy, led by Al Harrington poured in 20 points and 7 rebounds in a 50-37 victory over the Monsters. Rashad McCants also added 13 points to the team’s win as Trilogy looks to continue their streak into Week 3. The 3-Headed Monsters now 1-1, were led by Rashard Lewis with 17 points, and Eddie Basden with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
Game 2 between Power and Killer 3s, was an exciting match-up as captain, Chauncey Billups made his BIG3 debut in Charlotte. Leading at the half 26-24, the Killer 3s looked to gain their first win, but came up short falling to Power 50-45. Cuttino Mobley led Power with 23 points and 6 rebounds, while Deshawn Stevens and Paul McPherson added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Killer 3s now 0-2 were led by Billups with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Stephen Jackson also tallied 18 points on the evening.
Game 3 was another close duel between Ball Hogs and Tri-State, as both teams were searching for their first victory in the BIG3. After overcoming a 15 point deficit in the second half, the Ball Hogs were victorious over Tri-State in Week 2. Derrick Byars and Rasual Butler each tallied 19 points in the win. Winless, Tri-State looks to improve and gain their first win in Week 3 when they take on Killer 3s. Mike James was the leading scorer with 17 points in the team’s loss.
The final match-up of Week 2 ended well for the Ghost Ballers who secured their first victory of the season over 3’s Company. Down ten at the half, Ghost Ballers went on a run led by Mike Bibby who led all scorers with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
