Monday, June 5th, tipped off the start of the 2017 Manual High School Boys Basketball Summer League. This years summer league games featured teams from Lutheran, Shortridge, Northwest, Lighthouse, Park Tudor, Irvington, Metropolitan, Christel House, Indianapolis Homeschool, and the host, Manual Redskins. Summer League games are held every Monday evening, 6pm at Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis.
The Lighhouse Academy Bulldogs are a young team, featuring several returning players and a few new faces, including Head Coach Smith. After being an assistant coach for many years, Smith landed the head coaching position at Lighthouse, and has high hopes for his team. “Our goal is to win the 1A State Championship,” Smith said. “Nothing less.” This will be the teams first year in the IHSAA, and the Bulldogs want to come in with a bang. “We have a young team, with the talent to be competitive, and I’m confident that with everyone’s hard-work we can get it done,” Smith said.
Coach Strange of the Irvington Ravens, believes the Summer League is a great way to prepare his team for the coming season. “The Summer League was part of our success last season as it enabled us to come together and gel to build our chemistry,” Strange said. The Ravens are on a mission to win their conference’s sectional title, and the schools first sectional championship, after coming up short last season in the semi-final.
